The Embassy had a Record Number of Applications for Passports in the First Three Months of 2015.

Last updated: 27.04.2015 // We have never seen this many applications for passports. The numbers have increased by about 60 % from the applications we received in the past two years and has more than doubled from the applications received in 2012.

More than 50 passports were issued in the first quarter of this year, where a large majority were renewals of standard passports. Other applications included new passports for Norwegian children born in the region and replacement of lost passports.

However, the embassy has recorded that not as many Norwegian citizens are registered as residing in Ethiopia. Most passport applicants travel to the embassy in Addis Abeba from other neighboring countries. Once again, the embassy encourages all Norwegian citizens currently travelling to and/or residing in Ethiopia and Djibouti to register their stay on www.reiseregistrering.no so that the embassy has an overview of all its citizens in Ethiopia and Djibouti. This is especially important in the event of a crisis where the embassy might need to get in touch with all its citizens in these countries.
