Norway is supporting a program on Strategic Partnership for the Abandonment of FGM. The program is now in its second phase (2011-15) and is implemented by Save the Children and Norwegian Church Aid. The program aims at reducing FGM by 31% from the intervention areas.
The Midterm review conducted recently indicated that the program is on track. It further highlighted that the number of uncut girls is rapidly increasing and the circumcisers had stopped cutting. The role of religious leaders in delinking FGM from religion has been pivotal in the process.
