Good Governance & Human Rights

Norway is committed to cooperate with Ethiopia for the development of good governance; ensuring gender equality, human rights and democratization; and improving the situation for the civil society. In 2014, approximately 30 million NOK was channeled to this sector. Norway supports the fight against female genital mutilation (FGM), and the work for women’s empowerment and sexual reproductive health rights, by cooperating with civil society organizations, the UN and the government. Furthermore, Norway is contributing to capacity building in the justice sector; human rights training of law enforcement bodies; and free legal aid, through different programmes with the civil society and the Addis Ababa University. Norway supports Ethiopian civil society through a joint fund, the Civil Society Support Programme, together with Ireland, Netherlands, UK, Canada and Sweden
