The point of departure is the Government’s White Paper on Education for Development (2013-2014), which outlines which areas Norway would primarily be focusing on. This includes girls’ education, quality in education, primary and secondary education, education in humanitarian crisis and vocational training, among other issues.
A team from The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) has spent two weeks in Ethiopia to assess possibilities for Norwegian- Ethiopian cooperation within the education sector. The team has been in the field (Oromia and Gambella), and conducted meetings in Addis Ababa with the main stakeholders, including the Government of Ethiopia, the civil society, other donor countries and private business. Norad’s mapping study will form the basis for recommendations given to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Addis Ababa, in order to make a decision on how to frame the education cooperation between Norway and Ethiopia.
